Niagara Falls Attractions – Countless to Choose

April 14, 2010 under North America | Leave a Reply

Ah! The great Niagara Falls is the only geographical attraction that I had not seen until now. But, after visiting it, I really felt the wonder of the nature and its beauty. These spectacular falls are once must see in a lifetime. Now, many would question as to why I would go all the way to the States to just these falls? Instead, why should I not choose another U.S. holiday destination? My answer to these rational questions is only one – the Niagara Falls attractions! Yes, besides visiting the Niagara Falls, you are welcomed by many other charms and activities, which make the falls region a perfect holiday halt. Stretching across the Canadian boundary in the New York City, the Niagara Falls attractions are on both the U.S. and Canadian sides.

I would recommend buying a pass for visiting the Niagara Falls attractions such as the Niagara Falls & Great Gorge Adventure Pass or the Niagara Falls Power Pass.

My Visit

The most exciting highlight is the Maid of the Mist Boat Tour of Niagara Falls – the perfect choice to be amidst the roar of the falls. The diesel-engined boats welcome you to take you to the bottom of the American Falls and to the basin of the splendid Canadian Horseshoe Falls. And of course! The disposable rain jacket is also given to you for this 30-minute ride. If you cannot make up for this experience, do not worry – be at the Observation Deck of the Skylon Tower for a breathtaking view at 775 feet over the falls. It is also famous for superb dining in the Revolving Dining Room.

One more highlight on the falls is the antique Whirlpool Aero Car in which you travel above the Niagara whirlpool to have a breathtaking view. However, it is only available during conducive weather. The roaring power of the falls is also experienced at the IMAX Theatre Niagara Falls wherein over six stories’ high screen and floor jolting digital sound imitate the scene of being in the actual falls for you!

How about feeding a Beluga Whale with your family? If you really intend to do so, come to Marineland that is the No.1 choice of families. It is a park that offers amusement rides; dolphin, walrus, and sea lion shows; and splash shows of whales. Besides marine wildlife, you can also spot land animals like deer, buffaloes, and bears.

Do not miss to explore the Aquarium of Niagara at the Whirlpool Street in the America side where you explore the sea with 40 live collections including sharks, seals, penguins, and eels. There is also a gift shop, observation deck, and free parking. Then, the Cave of the Winds on the Goat Island is where you have to be in waterproof clothes to walk along the bottom of the Bridal Veil Falls at Niagara Falls State Park. This is quite thrilling on the Goat Island in the Niagara River that is reached only by foot or vehicular bridge. The island has many sites for magnificent views.

The manmade Lockport Cave & Underground Boat Ride is really an amazing attraction.

Take a guided tour to encounter the Erie Canal locks, amble via Holly’s 1,600-foot waterpower tunnel, explore geologic cave formations, and ride a half mile underground boat to know about the industrial revolution. Then, the Lockport Historic Trolley is another wonderful tour of an hour wherein you explore Lockport’s historic sites – famous for its memorable citizens and notable architecture. I could manage to take up one more voyage of two hours on the Lockport Locks & Erie Canal Cruises to discover the double series of locks on the Erie Canal.

On the Canadian side, The Journey behind the Falls is another exciting way to experience the falls but from its rear. A group of tourists are taken via a tunnel to access a site behind the falls from where they hear and see the huge amounts of falling water. Just at few minutes away from the falls is the Butterfly Conservatory – a part of the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens. Herein, you are amidst the tropical atmosphere and over 2,000 flying butterflies. For more fun, let butterflies sit on you, but you should be wearing bright colored clothing. Now, it was the time of the Alien Encounters – the only hands-on haunted house where the daring ones love to meet alien figures from the Sci-Fi films such as the Alien, Predator, Independence Day, and Species. You need to opt for one of two tours – Yellow (fearful but no touching) and Red (aliens can touch you).

In the same vicinity as that of the alien encounters, the Criminals Hall of Fame Wax Museum is another highlight where you come across the crime exhibits of the Old West, thunderous 20’s, and modern time. Take a tour of over 40 wax figures and historical relics. There is also a gift shop here.
