Houston Attractions – Truly Exciting!

April 15, 2010 under North America | Leave a Reply

Visiting Houston attractions was a great experience for me. Although I could not cover all of them, I could still manage to visit the major and new attractions. Some were really unique that I think cannot be seen anywhere else in this world, while some were quite thrilling. No matter whatever the attractions are, they all never fail to satisfy and mesmerize the visitors. Now, I will tell you about the Houston attractions that I visited.

My Visit

I started my trip from the downtown where Houston Waterfront Park was my first attraction to visit. It is a grand 23-acre park with verdant landscape and refreshing atmosphere. The recently built Sabine-to-Bagby Promenade is a great expanse along the banks of Buffalo Bayou wherein you can take the benefit of the jogging and biking trails and the notable group of pedestrian bridges linking the north and south bayou sides. Next, the Houston Zoo is a unique zoo with over 4,500 animals, a tropical bird zone, the small and big cat houses, vast series of reptiles, the Wortham World of Primates, a rain forest, natural habitats, and the Children’s Zoo holding many farm animals. The timings are daily from 9 am to 5 pm.

Then, I headed towards the Clear Lake area where the Kemah Boardwalk was really attractive and unique among all the Houston attractions. Both a waterfront dining stop and a weekend holiday spot, the walkway is simply at a distance of 20 miles from the downtown. But, the main attraction here is the Aquarium Restaurant that allures each visitor with its 50,000 gallon aquarium full of marine animals. Other attractions are the Flying Dutchman and Saltgrass Steakhouse.

After this, it was time for some fun and so I explored the Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Water Park at Galveston. It is a grand new park that throughout the year offers four tube slides, three speed slides, three kids’ zones with a myriad of varied play essentials and pint-sized slides, an isolated beach, a hot tub, and the Torrent® Tidal Wave River. In addition, the Surfenburg area has 16 water attractions such as two mounting water coasters, a wave lagoon, three beaches, three slides, the Tiki Tikes kids’ area, the Boogie Bahn surf ride, two family raft rides, and three rivers.

In the same area, one more worth visiting among the Houston attractions is the Moody Gardens full of pyramids. The major highlight is the 10 storey Rainforest Pyramid. Yes, this structure showcases an unbelievable tropical setting and is the largest bat display in the Southwest zone. The Discovery Pyramid is where you learn about the different aspects of science and ride an adventurous IMAX Ridefilm Theatre. Further, the IMAX 3D is where everything seems so real with the special effects and that you will never sit with stability on your seat. And yes! The Palm Beach is where you can relax on a white sand beach with a blue lagoon where kids can have much fun. Lastly, the most recent offering is the Aquarium Pyramid – the largest on Earth where waters of the world are explored.

The extraordinary museum in Houston is what I visited next called the Museum of Natural Science that has an outstanding exhibit of mineral varieties, a dinosaur carcass, space-station replicas, a planetarium, an IMAX theater, and a six storey butterfly centre where many colorful butterflies can be spotted. The museum is on the Hermann Circle Dr.

Then, on the Woodway is the Houston Arboretum & Nature Centre where you can really revitalize yourself in is serene natural world isolated from the hustling city life. Study about the natural environment that is adorned with native plants and animals. With no fees, the centre is really remarkable for its five mile of walking trails. There is also a Discovery Room offering hands-on displays and activities and the Nature Shop offering objects that are loved by all ages.

The Bayou Wildlife Park was another memorable experience where the guides takes you in a tram ride to explore a park full of exotic animals located six miles from I-45 close to Dickinson. Ride through the natural habitat to spot a myriad of birds and wildlife wandering around such as giraffes, zebras, rhinos, camels, ostriches, and alligators. Then, the Battleground State Historical Park – a State Historic Site offered a Battleground, Monument, and Battleship TEXAS. The San Jacinto Museum of History in La Porte is full of exhibits revealing to you the 400 years of Texas history.

The Houston Nature Discovery Center at Newcastle is simply full of interesting interactive displays to explore the nature on your own. It is a nonprofit organization founded in 1979. Next, the Mercer Arboretum deserves to be considered as the largest exhibit of local and cultivated plants. There are also 5 miles of trails here. The plants that you can spot are gingers, perennials, ferns, tropicals, bamboo, La Iris, and Daylilies. For more exploration, educational programs are also held.

Now, I am talking about the stunning Sea Center Texas – a marine conservatory at Lake Jackson offering a fish pond and touch-tanks housing blue crabs, starfish, and sponges. One more fascinating museum is the Houston Maritime Museum offering mock-up ships, historical pieces, maps, prints, a lecture hall, and a marine library at Dorrington. Lastly, I observed a Dolphin show from aboard the boat Seagull via the Galveston Harbor Tours. The tours are organized between 8:30 to 10 am on Saturdays.
